Executive and Leadership Coach
Front Row Perspectives
“I’ve noticed that it is not uncommon for many EHS professionals to avoid
difficult conversations, to fail when working with strong team personalities and /
or to push actions without the right level of engagement. They often can react unproductively to external triggers, missing valuable opportunities to gain clarity, collaboration and growth.
In the past 10 years of my EHS career, I started to notice an additional step of the
learning and growth process, a sometimes subtle difference beyond teaching and mentoring. I notice that successful professionals were having access to “something else”, and it was interesting because this “something else,” which I will call the “factor C,” was something that a few experienced professionals were able to do and willing to receive.
I notice also that many times professionals were becoming managers after a few years in the role and by shadowing or being told what and how to do in specific situations. However, something was always missing when uncertainty came for these professionals, when creative thinking was required, years of doing the same and following others was not offering enough competencies to successfully lead people. Aspiring managers were not openly thinking, and their thoughts were limited by instruction, curtailing personal and company growth opportunities, leading to frustration and many times leaving their jobs.
That “factor C” is what today is formally known as executive-leadership coaching. It’s the guide and support in achieving specific personal or professional
goals. It encourage to help develop skills, overcome obstacles and achieve desired
success. A set of skills and competencies that apply to our personal and professional lives, starting with awareness and self-knowledge to later expand through the people that surround us and confide in us to lead them.
Why do I do coaching?
I became particularly interested in coaching when I realized the power it has and the impact on people’s careers and lives. Coaching allows me to connect at a different level, perhaps to a more human level, and at the same time to provoke a thinking process that helps others to bring clarity and creative solutions to countless challenges.
There were many times I mentored “told” others by experience what to do instead of asking “What do we do” I guess it was faster and easier to do it that way instead of being patient and willing to sort through their genius because we all are geniuses we have just been limited to think in a particular way.
Then I realized we are limitless, and I must help others to find that connection and bring out the best of themselves to build better organizations, more fulfilling lives, and, why not, a better world.
To be here today is a big accomplishment.
I come from a small family in the country of Chile. As many fellow immigrants, I obtained my work visa and thoughtfully chose every step of my career to ensure I was getting closer to my next big thing, a better role, higher paid job, personal and
professional growth, etc. I did face many challenges but those helped me to build
strength, critical thinking and resilience, and overall a positive attitude.
I got my bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, and quickly, but not without struggle, graduated and obtained my Master degree through an international program in management systems. Later I earned the most renown certifications in my field each one at a time with a specific purpose (role) in mind. These EHS certification helped me to be noticeable and different in a positive way building a career that stands out from the crowd.
I am thankful for my family, which has been right next to me: my wife, always my support, my energy, and from time to time, my personal coach. My children for
whom I have learned so much in life and get to know better myself, tremendous growth opportunity day after day..
I consider myself a life-long learner.

The stretch zone, over the past 20 years I have taken personal challenges outside
my comfort zone, as a EHS professional I took on geographical challenges, teaming up at large mega projects for the energy business. Here I met the most talented professionals and wonderful people, some of these projects are:
